I'm making a difference by fundraising for childhood brain cancer research - a cause that is close to my heart. 

I am proud to represent The Pirate Ship Foundation - we raise funds for childhood brain cancer research.  One of the ways we raise funds is by conducting adventures all over Australia and the world that put people out of their comfort zone (mountain climbing, diving, treks, sky diving etc etc) and inspire them to raise funds for research. To date we have raised over $10 million for childhood brain cancer research. The Brain Tumour Research Laboratory at the Telethon Kids Institute has made enormous inroads thanks to this funding and are now world-leaders in pre-clinical testing of new drugs to treat children with brain cancer.

I am a researcher and have been directly involved with research on childhood cancer that has increased survival rates and improved quality of life.  Childhood brain cancer is one of the “hardest to solve” diseases. The challenges of getting drugs into the brain and then having them kill the tumour without affecting the child’s growing brain have been immense. I am pleased to say we are making progress, through building a world class team here in Perth that collaborates with the best in the world.

I know too many parents living through the pain and agony that their child is enduring.  Enough is enough. This is not something we can sit back and watch. I have climbed mountains, jumped out of planes, trekked in the Kimberley’s, abseiled off the tallest building in Perth and learnt stick and knife fighting. Rest assured – I am no Lara Croft! But, as long as this disease keeps taking or impacting our children and their families – I will keep doing crazy things to stop it.
